First the Covid pandemic, then the Ukraine war and now the economic ripples of the most recent crisis in the Persian Gulf region are going to impact European industrial capacity and energy availability once again. The Commission is aware of its difficult strategic positioning, and in the last five years there has been a surge of initiatives that try to tackle such issues: REPowerEU, the Critical Raw Materials Act, the Net-Zero Industry Act and the latest EU Grids Package, among others.
