The ongoing high-level talks between Russia and the United States represent not a genuine intention to achieve lasting peace, but an effort to strike a transactional bargain driven by the geopolitical priorities of Moscow and Washington. Instead of grounding the process in the rights and aspirations of the Ukrainian people, it merely reflects the strategic interests of the great powers. Ceasefires and economic deals may temporarily halt the fighting, but they fail to address the deeper issues that fuel the war, leaving no promise of sustainable peace. Worse still, the current negotiations risk repeating the failures of the 2014 Minsk agreements, which served only to freeze the conflict without resolving it.
